New Monthly Market Launches in Whitehaven Town Centre

A new monthly market has been launched in Whitehaven town centre, giving local traders and shoppers a regular opportunity to support independent businesses.

The first market took place on Saturday 18 July and was warmly welcomed by both traders and members of the public. The event followed requests from local traders for additional market opportunities after the regular Whitehaven market was withdrawn.

Following the success of the test event, the market will return on Saturday 15 August and will continue on the third Saturday of every month through to Christmas, with plans to possibly extend this further.

The monthly market aims to bring more people into the town centre, support local businesses, and provide residents and visitors with access to a wide range of products, including fresh produce, crafts, gifts, and locally made items.

Michael Barry, Assistant Director of Thriving Places at Cumberland Council said:

“The feedback from both traders and visitors following the first market has been really positive. The market was introduced in response to requests from local businesses, and it's encouraging to see it already attracting people into the town centre.

“We look forward to working with traders to build on this success and establish a regular market that supports local businesses and adds to Whitehaven's town centre offer.”

Residents and visitors can explore markets across Cumberland throughout the week. Carlisle Market Hall is open Monday to Saturday from 8am to 5pm, while Keswick Market takes place every Thursday and Saturday. Wigton Market is held on Fridays, Carlisle Outdoor Market runs every Friday, and Workington Market welcomes shoppers on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Anyone interested in supporting local traders or discovering unique products is encouraged to visit their local market and experience what Cumberland's market towns have to offer.
