Cumberland Council has confirmed that planned carriageway resurfacing works on Main Street, Victoria Street and Penrith Road in Keswick will now be moving forward this autumn.
The scheme, which will help improve the condition of the road for all users, will be delivered in two phases, with overnight road closures in place to allow the works to be carried out safely and efficiently.
The first phase of works on Main Street and Victoria Street will take place between 21 September and 2 October, followed by works on Penrith Road between 5 October and 16 October.
Residents and businesses are also being invited to a public drop-in session on Wednesday 9 September, where members of the project team will be on hand to provide further information about the scheme and answer any questions.

This work forms part of Cumberland Council's wider £27.3 million investment in highways for 2026/27, including £2.85 million dedicated to residential and rural roads, supporting improvements across the network. The investment includes fixing potholes, resurfacing roads and improving drainage, footways, cycleways, bridges and other key infrastructure, helping to create a safer, more resilient and better-connected network for communities across Cumberland.
Every effort will be made to minimise disruption and maintain access where it is safe and practical to do so. Access for emergency services, pedestrians and cyclists will be maintained throughout the works.
