Voters in Harraby South ward urged to remember their voter ID on election day

Residents in the Cumberland Council area of Harraby South ward are being urged to prepare ahead of the by-election taking place on Thursday 20 August.

Voters are reminded that they will need to show photographic ID to vote in this election. Residents are being advised to make sure they are ready to vote by checking they have an accepted form of ID.

Accepted forms of ID include a UK, European Economic Area (EEA) or Commonwealth passport; a UK, EEA or Commonwealth drivers’ licence; and some concessionary travel passes, such as an older person’s bus pass. Voters will be able to use expired ID if they are still recognisable from the photo.

Postal voters are encouraged to ensure their postal vote is received in time to be counted on polling day. Anyone who has not posted their postal vote in time, can hand it in to staff at their local polling station on polling day.  

Andrew Seekings, Returning Officer at Cumberland Council, said: "Electors in the Harraby South ward for Cumberland Council have the chance to elect their representative on the council on 20 August. Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm on polling day.

Applications to vote by emergency proxy at this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Cumberland Council, Civic Centre, Rickergate, Carlisle, Cumbria, CA3 8QG by 5pm on Thursday, 20 August 2026. Electors can contact the elections team on 0300 373 3730 with any queries.
