RSTs will remain above freezing, except in the Lakes East and Pennines Central areas, where values may drop close to zero; winds increasing to 20-40 mph by Saturday midday, strongest along the coast.
General Synopsis
Cumberland will be positioned on the periphery of a deep low-pressure system centered over Iceland, within a south-westerly flow influenced by mild, moist Atlantic air. On Saturday afternoon, the front associated with this system will begin to move in and affect the Cumberland area.
Road surface temperatures will remain above zero everywhere, with the exception of Lakes East and Pennines Central, where values may be close to freezing. Light rain is expected from Friday night into early Saturday, increasing to moderate intensity later in the afternoon. By early Saturday, wind speeds will range from 2 to 12 mph, then strengthen to gusts over 25 mph by midday, and up to 40 mph along the coast. On Saturday morning, fog may form over higher ground; otherwise, visibility will remain good.
