Permit scheme for road and street works activities
Part 3 of the Traffic Management Act 2004 introduced permit schemes. These schemes help manage road and street works activities, reducing disruption and improving coordination.

Objectives of the permit scheme
The permit scheme aims to:
- reduce safety hazards and incidents in and around work sites
- reduce the impact of works on local residents and businesses
- reduce the impact of works on disabled people and public transport users
- protect the street and underground apparatus while helping to manage long-term maintenance costs
- encourage greater cooperation and collaboration between works promoters
- reduce the environmental impact of works through measures such as reducing noise, improving cleanliness and increasing recycling of materials
