Maryport’s past, present and future have been brought to life with a trail of locally-inspired artwork by talented town artist Alan Roper.

Find his creations in all of these places:

  • the stage and bar at the Harbourside event space
  • the public realm map signs
  • inside the Town Hall reception
  • at the entrance to Maryport Activity Centre
  • at the side of Maryport Activity Centre
  • on lamppost banners on Senhouse Street
  • on the Irish Street public toilets
  • inside Maryport Maritime Museum and The Carlton, which open in 2026

Alan's trick is to hide images within images in all of his work, so the more you look, the more you see. Peer closely at the map signage and you can spot the hidden 'M' for Maryport.

Other organisations also feature Alan's work on their buildings, like The Settlement and the Sea Cadets. Have a wander and see what you can find!
