The Carlisle Educational Charity offers financial support to young people under 25 who live in the Carlisle District and are pursuing further or higher education.
Grants are available for course-related costs and study-related travel.
What the charity supports
The charity provides grants to help with:
- course-related costs such as books and equipment
- travel that is clearly linked to your course
Trustees consider applications based on your:
- eligibility
- course and travel plans
- household’s financial circumstances
Who can apply
You can apply for a grant if you:
- are under 25 on 1 October of the application year
- live in Carlisle District, or your parents do
- are attending a full-time course at a university or college (not sixth form)
- are a graduate undertaking further study or professional qualifications
- need to travel in the UK or abroad as part of your course
The charity prioritises students from low-income families. This usually means a joint household income of £21,000 or less. If your household income is higher, you can still apply, but funding may be limited.

When to apply
Trustees meet twice a year to review applications:
- October – for undergraduate, postgraduate, professional courses and travel grants
- March – mainly for travel grants and postgraduate or professional courses
