Cumberland Council is thanking local residents, businesses and community representatives who shared their views on potential Active Travel improvements in Carlisle, as the county prepares to play its part in major national and international cycling events.

Plans for a multimillion-pound industrial hub, located at the heart of the Leconfield Estate in Cleator Moor, have been submitted for planning approval.

The benefits of investing in Cumbria will be showcased at a three-day business conference (Tuesday 19 - Thursday 21 May 2026) which is set to attract 16,000 delegates and more than 1,750 potential investors.

Cumberland Council and the Carlisle Town Deal Board will host a celebratory event on Friday 15 May 2026 to recognise the achievements of the Carlisle Town Deal programme and mark the completion of Project Tullie, which officially reopened in April 2025.

Nearly 1,000 residents have helped to choose a new name for Millom’s new flagship sports and leisure facility. The building, currently under construction on Salthouse Road, will officially be called Millom Leisure Centre following a community vote.

A local operator has been identified to take on the lease for a new Millom Town Deal project. Cumberland Council has confirmed that Samantha and Andrew Bowden will take on the lease for Millom’s former NatWest Bank now called The Old Bank and is putting in place the final formal arrangements.

An additional £4.5 million funding has been secured from the recently formed Cumbria Combined Authority to enhance the Cumberland Sports Village in Workington.

Plans to deliver major public realm improvements and a new 239 space car park as part of the Carlisle Station Gateway Project have been approved by Cumberland Council’s planning committee.
