The Route
The opening stages of the 2027 Tour de France will take place across the UK, including a stage finish in Carlisle and a stage start in Keswick.
Stage dates and locations:
- Friday 2 July: Stage one - Edinburgh to Carlisle
- Saturday 3 July: Stage two - Keswick to Liverpool
- Sunday 4 July: Stage three - Welshpool to Cardiff
Stage one: Edinburgh to Carlisle
The opening stage starts in Edinburgh and passes through Midlothian and the Scottish Borders.
Riders will take on a climb at the Côte de Melrose in the Eildon Hills before following the Scottish and English border through Liddesdale. The route briefly enters Dumfries and Galloway before crossing into Cumberland.
The stage finishes in Carlisle, near the city’s medieval castle.

Stage two: Keswick to Liverpool
The second stage starts in Keswick in the Lake District National Park.
The route heads south past Thirlmere, Grasmere, Rydal Water and Windermere, then follows the Morecambe Bay coast. It continues through Lancaster and includes a climb at the Côte de Jubilee Tower.
Riders then take on four further climbs near the Pennines before finishing on The Strand in Liverpool.
