Grants to support refugees and people seeking asylum

Apply for funding to support refugees, people seeking asylum and evacuees across Cumberland.

Cumberland Council is inviting applications from voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise (VCFSE) organisations that support refugees, people seeking asylum and evacuees.

Organisations can apply individually or work together on a joint application.

Applications close at 9am on Monday 16 November 2026.

About the grants

Funding is available for services supporting:

  • legal support
  • community cohesion
  • community integration
  • community development

You can apply for the grants that match your organisation's experience and ability to deliver the required services.

Grants will be awarded for a 12 month period. There may be an opportunity for a second year extension if there is evidence of need and council funding is available.

Services must cover the whole of Cumberland, with a presence in each area. Projects must be financially complete by 31 March 2028.

What we will not fund

Funding cannot be used for:

  • social outings outside an individual's or group's local community
  • social activities that do not involve the wider local community, except asylum drop-ins
  • ongoing or recurring costs beyond the grant period
  • new white goods or household furniture
  • litigation or lobbying
