Hosting responsibilities
Hosting can be rewarding, however there are some important things you should consider before agreeing to host, this includes:
- extra household costs with more people living in your home
- communicating with guests who don’t speak your first language fluently
- changes in your household when sharing your home with guests
- differences in living habits, including household tasks and eating preferences
- deciding on boundaries and how you want to live together
You cannot charge rent. You’re not required to provide meals, but you can if you wish. You may ask guests to contribute a reasonable amount toward shared household bills, such as food and utilities.
Before your guest arrives
It is encouraged to keep in touch with your guests before they arrive, so you can get to know them and organise with them how their first few days in the country may look.
Guests may wish to have some quiet time to settle in, however some may want to get set up in the local area and organise essentials quickly.
As sponsors you are here to support your guest in adapting to life here in the UK. Your guest may need help finding information about the local area and signing up to essential services. You may help guests find places like:
- local schools
- doctors and dentists
- shops
- places of worship
- community centres
- the council offices
- local activities
- the Job centre
Ask your allocated case officer if you require assistance with any of these areas.
After your guests arrive
Confirm guest arrival by emailing: [email protected]
Your Case Officer will:
- arrange a follow-up home visit
- provide a £200 welcome voucher per Ukrainian guest (redeemable at your local Post Office)
Where possible, you should try to meet your guests at their point of arrival.
