Homes for Ukraine

How to host someone from Ukraine and what support you’ll receive from the Cumberland Resettlement Service.

Support from the Resettlement Service

Once the local authority receives the application from the home office, a case officer will be allocated to you. They will visit you prior to your guests arrival to complete DBS checks and suitability checks on the accommodation.

Once your guests arrive, a follow up visit will occur. A Resettlement Case Officer and Ukrainian interpreter will be available to support you.

During the visit, we will:

  • set expectations with both the host and guests about the scheme
  • explain the ways case officers can offer support

They may help with:

  • registering with the Department for Work and Pensions
  • registering with a GP
  • accessing education and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages)
  • preparing for independent living after 6 months (you can continue hosting if you wish)

Keeping in touch with hosts and guests

We keep in regular contact with hosts and their guests to make sure each placement is working well and to spot any issues early.

We will agree with each host how often we stay in touch and the best way to do this. Contact is flexible and based on the needs of both the host and their guests. At the start of a placement, contact is usually monthly.

Open and honest communication with your case officer helps us provide support at the right time, protect everyone’s wellbeing, and help placements remain positive for everyone involved.
