Walking aids reuse

Return walking aids (such as crutches and frames) to the NHS for reuse if possible. You can also recycle them at a household waste recycling centre (HWRC).

Find out where to return walking aids on the NHS England website.

HWRC permits

You need a permit if you’re driving a larger vehicle, such as a van or utility vehicle, or using a large double-axle trailer.

If you’re walking to a site with waste, you’ll need a pedestrian permit so we can keep you safe.

Find out how to apply for a permit.

Other HWRCs

Whether you live Cumberland or Westmorland and Furness, you can use any of the 14 Household Waste Recycling Centres.

You must apply for a waste permit through your own council.
