Applying for a gambling premises licence or permit, and what you need to do.

Temporary and occasional use notices

Temporary and occasional use notices authorise premises that are not licensed generally for gambling purposes. It can be used for certain types of gambling for limited periods.

Temporary use notices (TUNs)

Allow gambling at a temporary event, for example betting at a snooker tournament.

To apply, you must:

  • hold a relevant operating licence
  • apply at least 3 months and 1 day before the event
  • send copies of your notice to the Gambling Commission, Cumbria Police and HM Revenue & Customs

Occasional use notices (OUNs)

Allow betting on a track for up to 8 days a year, without a premises licence.

Tracks include horse or dog racing venues and other locations where sporting events happen.

If the notice meets the rules, there is no provision for counter-notices or objections.
