Catering, Procurement, Policies and Practice

Planning for health

The Partnership will explore options to restrict applications for new fast-food outlets.  The “Right to Grow” and formal opportunities for food growing initiatives will be considered through planning teams.  Cumberland Council will assess options for developing healthy food advertising policy, preventing high fat, salt and sugar containing products from being advertised on Council-owned advertising spaces.  This advertising policy can also incorporate wider health and wellbeing outcomes e.g. gambling advertising ban.

Local food economy considerations will be integrated into the development of tourism and economic strategies, allowing Cumberland to thrive.

Procurement

The Council’s procurement policies will further incorporate health and sustainability commitments and buying standards.  Future procurement contracts e.g. those in schools, residential homes etc will be reviewed to ensure they are compliant.  Council officers will support improved collaborations across the supply chain, for example through local procurement opportunities.
