Sustainable Food Economy

Buying healthy and sustainable food becomes the easy choice when good food enterprises are put at the centre of local economic development. Furthermore, this creates jobs, stimulating the local economy and regenerating our high streets.

Council strategies, policies and services will support the development of further healthy and sustainable food businesses and protect the local food infrastructure.  Work must be undertaken to expand food markets across the region, improving diversity of the retail offer, and supporting local businesses.

There will be a further drive to promote communications which support local businesses e.g. local business newsletters, Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership (CLEP), Cumbria Chamber of Commerce and British Energy Coast Business Cluster (BECBC).
