Advice if you might become homeless

Get advice based on your situation if you might become homeless, including what you can do next and where to get help.

Leaving home as a young person

Leaving home is a major decision. If you are thinking about leaving, or have been asked to leave by your family or friends, get advice as soon as possible.

You may still have options to stay where you are or find alternative solutions.

Find advice and support on youth homelessness.

Before you leave home

Try to get advice before you leave if possible.

You may be able to:

  • stay in your home with support
  • resolve issues with your family or household
  • find a safe way to remain where you are

Leaving without a plan can make it harder to get housing help.

If you have been asked to leave

If your parents, family or friends have asked you to leave, contact us as soon as possible.

We can:

  • help you understand your housing rights
  • look at whether you can stay in your home
  • speak to your family or others involved where appropriate
  • help you find alternative accommodation if you cannot stay

If you feel unsafe at home

If you do not feel safe where you are living, you should get help straight away.

If you are in immediate danger, call 999.

We can help you:

  • find somewhere safe to stay
  • access support services
  • understand your housing options

Help for young people under 18

If you are under 18, children’s services are usually responsible for finding you somewhere to live.

You should contact children’s services or ask someone you trust to help you make contact.

Do not leave too quickly

Try not to leave your home permanently without getting advice first.

Leaving your home without getting advice first could affect the help you can receive.
