Mental health and becoming homeless
If you have a mental health condition and are at risk of homelessness, support is available to help you stay in your home or find somewhere suitable to live.
Contact us as early as possible so we can understand your situation and provide the right support.
If you are at risk of becoming homeless
If you are struggling to manage your housing because of your mental health, you do not need to wait until you lose your home before getting help.
We can:
- assess your housing situation and support needs
- help you understand your housing options
- support you to stay in your home where possible
- help you find alternative accommodation if needed
How we assess your situation
If you apply for homelessness help, we will assess your circumstances.
If you have a mental health condition, we may consider whether this makes you more vulnerable and affects your ability to find and keep accommodation.
This can help determine what duty we owe you and what support may be available.
Support and joint working
We work with other services to provide the support you need.
This may include working with:
- health services
- social care services
- support workers or advocates
- other organisations that support your wellbeing
We will develop a plan with you to identify what support is needed.
Your housing plan
If you are at risk of homelessness, we will work with you to agree a housing plan.
This will set out the steps you need to take and what we will do to support you.
This may include support to help you manage your housing and maintain a tenancy.
If you need more support
If you need additional help to live independently, you may be able to access:
- supported accommodation
- help from social care services
- other housing-related support
The support available will depend on your circumstances.
