Access local history resources, family history records and archive collections at Carlisle Library.

Overview

Carlisle Library's Local Studies Collection was established through the bequest of William Jackson FSA (1823 to 1890), a local historian and collector.

The collection has continued to grow and now includes:

  • books
  • archives
  • newspapers
  • maps
  • photographs
  • other historical records relating to Cumberland, Westmorland and the wider Lake Counties

Some items date back to the seventeenth century.

You can:
