Place programme: Egremont

Find details of the three projects in Egremont funded through the Borderlands Place Programme.

Connected Egremont

We are still working on the detail of this scheme and are exploring the following options.

A new road crossing

A new road crossing in front of the former Red Lion site is being considered. It would link the site and Beck Green car park directly to Market Place. This would make it safer to cross Main Street and improve access to the businesses which surround Market Place. Up to six car parking spaces could be removed from Market Place to provide improved public access adjacent to the crossing, making it safer and more appealing encouraging greater footfall into the town centre.

Town trail

There is a proposal to create a Town Trail celebrating Egremont’s assets and encouraging people to explore the town centre and nearby attractions

Wayfinding and signage

Better signs would create a cohesive visual style, easily identifiable as Egremont. Improved legibility for pedestrians will help support businesses, tourism and active travel. The designs would be unique to Egremont reflecting local heritage, culture and nature encouraging people to engage with Egremont’s stories, people and surroundings.

This project both links and adds value to the other two schemes whilst also offering additional value in its own right.
