Funding and timeline
£3 million Borderland’s funding has been secured for three projects in Egremont:
- redevelopment of the former Red Lion site
- refurbishment of Florence Arts Centre
- connecting Egremont
The funding is only available for these three projects identified in the Place Plan. The current estimated combined cost of all three projects is £9.8m. Applications to other funders have been made and we will confirm who those funders are once we know the outcome. If we are unable to secure all of the funding none of the projects will be dropped, but we would need to reduce their scope.
Timeline
Our aim is for all projects to be complete in time for the Egremont Crab Fair in September 2028. Work on the former Red Lion site and at Florence is due to begin in early 2027. Both projects will take 12 to 18 months to complete. The Connecting Egremont schemes will be developed during 2026/27 and delivered in late 2027/early 2028.
