Pride in Place is a community-led programme that helps local areas improve infrastructure, public spaces and community life.
As part of a £5 billion nationwide programme, the government has allocated up to £20 million over 10 years to each of these Cumberland neighbourhoods:
- Raffles and Morton
- Flimby, Ellenborough and Broughton Moor
- Mirehouse, Kells, Woodhouse, Greenbank, and Sandwith
Neighbourhood Boards will bring together residents, businesses, and community groups to decide how funding is used in each area.
Programme objectives
The funding aims to:
- build stronger communities by improving shared spaces and sense of belonging
- create thriving places by supporting town centres and local facilities
- give local people more influence over decisions in their area

Join a Neighbourhood Board
Local people are invited to apply to become Neighbourhood Board members in some areas.
Board members help shape how funding is used to improve their community.
You do not need formal qualifications or previous board experience. The most important thing is understanding local issues and wanting to make a positive difference.
As a board member, you will:
- speak to residents, groups, businesses and community organisations
- help identify local priorities and challenges
- support the development of a neighbourhood plan
- review funding proposals
- make sure projects reflect what local people need
- represent and promote your community
We want boards to reflect the communities they serve and welcome applications from people of all ages and backgrounds.
