Further information and context
During 2025 to 2026, we invested £340,000 in a new paving machine, enabling our highways teams to carry out larger and more complex resurfacing and road improvement schemes in-house.
Following specialist training, the machine has been used to deliver a number of schemes and contributed to the completion of 41,877m² of carriageway improvements and 45,000m² of resurfacing works.
Bringing this work in-house gives us greater flexibility to deliver highway improvements, increases our capacity to carry out repairs and improvements, and provides better value for money. It also supports skills development within our workforce, improves the quality of repairs and helps extend the life of our road network.
This investment forms part of our long-term approach to maintaining and improving highways, helping us build a more resilient network for residents, businesses and visitors.
