Since 21 April 2020, Carlisle City Council no longer provides a local land charges register service. The register transferred to HM Land Registry.

Cumberland Council still provides replies to CON29 (Standard Enquiries of the Local Authority) enquiries for the former Carlisle area.
CON29 searches can include information about:

- a completed CON29 form
- a copy of an up-to-date location plan, at a scale of 1:2500
- the property or land clearly outlined in red
- the correct fee, payable to Carlisle City Council
Personal searches
A personal search is a free inspection of the local land charges register. Anyone can carry out a personal search.
The person carrying out the search is responsible for identifying the land or property and making notes from the register.
