Cumberland Council is looking for a friendly and enthusiastic Waitress/Waiter to join the team at the Talkin Tarn Tearoom and Kiosk. In this varied role, you'll serve food and drinks, assist visitors, support site operations, and help maintain a welcoming environment for all. You'll also handle transactions, monitor stock, and ensure high standards of hygiene and safety.

No specific previous experience in catering is required, however good communication and customer service skills will be necessary. Training will be given in food hygiene and first aid. You’ll need to be available for shifts during evenings, weekends, and school holidays. The Strategic Commissioning department within Cumberland Council is seeking a Commissioning Assistant to join their team.  The purpose of this team is to support service areas by identifying needs and commissioning services to deliver effective, efficient and best value services and outcomes for its service users.

The Commissioning team supports several services, including Adults Social Care & Housing, Children and Family Wellbeing, Disabled People (including mental health, learning disability and autism) and Public Health, delivering high quality services and outcomes for the citizens of Cumberland. Significant analytical support is required to make sure these services are commissioning in an effective & efficient manner, delivering value for money, whilst ensuring that the needs of Cumberland citizens continue to be met.

  This is an exciting and rewarding role focusing primarily on the sourcing of homes and commissioning of services for Cared for Children.  The successful candidate will play a key role in providing effective guidance, co-ordination and support in relation to this.

Other aspects of the post will include the accurate recording of data, the issuing of documentation relating to commissioning activities and assisting the Commissioning team with analysis and interpretation of information, stakeholder engagement and market development.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver a range of learning/skills and/or personal/practical suppo

Who we’re looking for

  • Recent, proven experience of working with or caring for children of a relevant age in an educational/classroom setting (this may have been on placement for your qualification if recently attained)
  • Awareness of practices and procedures within education relating to the welfare, safety, and education of children
  • General understanding of Early Years Foundation Stage/National Curriculum and other basic learning programmes and strategies
  • Basic understanding of child development and learning
  • Desirable to have knowledge of other services to young people
  • Ability to self-evaluate learning needs and actively seek learning opportunities
  • Desirable to have effective use of ICT to support learning, and be able to use basic technology (computer, video, photocopier)
  • Ability to relate well to children and adults
  • Able to work constructively as part of a team
  • Understanding classroom roles and responsibilities and own position within these
  • Articulate essential soft skills needed for the role (eg communication, adaptability, collaboration)
  • Promote any development opportunities within the team/service
  • Use inclusive language to appeal to a diverse pool of candidates
