Teaching assistant (EYFS & KS1)

Teaching Assistant (Early Years & KS1) (15 hours permanent plus up to 11 hours on a temporary basis)

‘Learning Together, Growing Together’
“We are a small family with big, caring hearts, striving to be the best that we can be, treating each other with respect and, knowing God is always with us on our learning journey.”  We are proud of our caring school where the personal development of pupils is a recognised strength.

Braithwaite CE Primary School has the exciting opportunity to welcome a new staff member to our team, ideally to start on 23rd February (or as soon as possible thereafter).

Teaching Assistant 15-26 hours per week, 15 hours permanent, up to 11 hours temporary, Grade 5 SCP6, PCD5 (£25,989 per annum, pro rata, term time plus 1 week INSET & holiday entitlement).

We are seeking an excellent teaching assistant to join our dedicated and hard working team, working in our Early Years & Key Stage 1 unit (supporting Nursery & Reception pupils in particular) and working ideally Monday to Thursday (but definitely Tuesday and Wednesday).  There are 15 hours on a permanent contract; up to a further 11 hours are linked to current nursery hours so are fixed term, though are likely to continue.

The successful candidate will need to be:
•  A qualified teaching assistant (must have level 3 Early Years qualification) with recent experience with pupils aged 3-7 years, including those with additional needs
•  Calm and positive in promoting learning and managing pupils’ behaviour
•  Dedicated to ensuring the well being and progress of all pupils
•  Highly motivated, enthusiastic, flexible and caring; able to work as part of a strong team under the direction of the Early Years / Key Stage 1 teaching staff
•  Sympathetic to the Christian ethos of our school and committed to our aims and values.

We are a small school where staff tend to ‘multi-task’ so this post would ideally be combined with roles as After School Club lead & After School Club Assistant, 2.5 hours per week in each role (ideally Tuesday & Wednesday to 5:40pm, Grade 5 SCP6, PCD5 for leader, Grade 3 SCP3-4 for assistant) – see separate job descriptions for more details of these roles on our school website.

Application forms and further details about the post are available from the school website https://www.braithwaite.cumbria.sch.uk/quick-links/vacancies.html  All applications must be on the Good Shepherd application form; CVs can not be accepted.  Visits to the school are welcome by prior arrangement with the Head of School, Laura Todhunter, or Executive Headteacher, Jo Laker, who can be contacted via email: [email protected] / [email protected]  or by phoning the school office on 017687 78356.  Please get in touch for an informal conversation or to find out more about the role(s) offered.

Closing date for applications: Tuesday 3rd February 2026 at 9am
Interviews planned for the afternoon of Friday 6th February 2026

Braithwaite CE Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and safety of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.
