Following the Highways and Transport Board Strategic meeting last week (Thursday 29 January), Cumberland Council is reminding residents to take advantage of 18 new and enhanced bus routes now operating across the area.

Despite the heavy rainfall experienced throughout December, which affected our planned surfacing schedule, the team continued to make strong progress across the project. All nine drainage networks are now substantially complete and more importantly fully operational, an important milestone as we move into the final stages of construction.

Cumberland Council is reminding primary and secondary school pupils across the area that there are fewer than three weeks left to take part in this year’s Baa ttery Recycling Competition.

Cumberland Council will shortly begin essential carriageway resurfacing and footway reconstruction works on the B5307 between Finglandrigg and Kirkbampton.

Cumberland Council is continuing to strengthen Adult Social Care services following an assessment by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), which rated the service as ‘Requires Improvement’.

Cumberland Council will begin essential carriageway resurfacing works on the B5289 between Low Lorton and Whitbeck Bridge, and on the C2030 between Brackenthwaite and Low Liza Bridge, starting Monday 9 February 2026.
