Chief Officer of Cumbria Association of Local Councils Ltd (CALC)

Salary range SCP 35 (£23.92 per hour) to SCP 39 (£26.06 per hour) negotiable depending upon knowledge and experience. National Joint Council, Scale LC3

Hours 24 per week which may be increased to 28 per week depending upon the needs of the organisation.

About the role

CALC are looking for a dynamic and proactive Chief Officer to oversee their ongoing operations and administration when the current post holder retires at the end of October 2026. The Chief Officer is responsible for the financial running of the Association and the delivery of professional support services to its member local (parish, community and town) councils and parish meetings.

We are looking for an experienced, self-motivated and efficient manager with the ability to deal with a broad range of responsibilities from directing day-to-day operations, representing the sector and providing strategic direction to the CALC Board of Directors.

To be the successful candidate you will need to be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the local government sector relative to town, community and parish councils, the legislation that they must comply with and their needs. You will be expected to build relationships across all levels of local government, key organisations and agencies, ensuring that local councils across Cumbria have a voice locally and nationally.

The successful candidate will also hold the position of Company secretary and will support the CALC Board, work closely with councillors and clerks across Cumbria and Strategic Partners. The post holder will also be expected to work outside core hours and travel across Cumbria as and when required.

About this opportunity

 

We are looking for a reliable and motivated Site Cleaner to join our Property Team, providing high‑quality cleaning services across a range of Cumberland Council buildings. Your work will help ensure our facilities are safe, clean, and ready to support essential council services.

Working Hours (16 hours per week):

 

Monday – Thursday:

3 hours 15 minutes per day - 16:45 – 20:00

Friday:

3 hours -16:45 – 19:45

 

Please note: These hours may be subject to change. The contracted hours are based on 16 hours per week unless additional hours are offered as overtime. Any overtime would be by agreement with service management and dependent on service and operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Clean designated areas to required standards and specifications.
  • Use and store cleaning materials safely in line with COSHH guidelines.
  • Ensure cleaning equipment is clean, safe, and report any faults or damage.
  • Replenish consumables and remove waste to designated areas.
  • Attend required Health & Safety training.
  • Complete weekly timesheets accurately.
  • Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive, professional approach.
