Part-time Teacher of Computing

Part-time Teacher of Computing (0.2-0.3 FTE, 1-1.5 days a week)
MPR / Unqualified

At Cumbria Futures Federation we work at the heart of our communities. Our small secondary schools are inclusive, welcoming and ambitious.  With a wide range of abilities in each class and an innovative curriculum, our schools punch well above their weight and provide a unique experience for our students.

We are seeking a part-time Teacher of Computing to work across both of our schools from September 2026.

This role will involve teaching Computing at KS3, but may in future extend to offering GCSE Computing.   This is a brilliant opportunity for an ambitious and enthusiastic teacher, or unqualified expert seeking to start their career in teaching, to create an ethos of excitement and interest in IT and computing across our schools.

This role involves working at both of our schools, Beacon Hill Community School in Aspatria and Solway Community School in Silloth. Your timetable would not usually require travel between the schools during the school day and our two-week timetable provides an opportunity for further flexibility.

Our small and friendly schools provide excellent opportunities to be involved in school-wide activities as well as the challenge of teaching across the age and ability range.  The right candidate will be enthusiastic, motivated and inspirational in the classroom. They will work supportively with our students to ensure all learners achieve the best for their ability.

As you develop with us, you will have the opportunity to take on a breadth of responsibilities that are not always available in larger schools. There may also be the opportunity for the right candidate to take a step into teaching, progress up the pay scale and/or take on additional responsibilities.

If you feel that you share our values and are ready to take your next step in your career, then we would like to hear from you.  We welcome applications from colleagues at all stages in their careers – if you are a motivated but talented non-teacher interested in forging a career in teaching, or an early career teacher looking for a first step, then consider making an application; we are great at growing our own.

We would also welcome applications for teachers already working part-time in the subject, and can offer close collaboration with your existing school to manage timetables etc.

For an informal conversation about the role and what it is like working for us, please contact the school office to arrange a chat with our Headteacher or Deputy Headteacher.

For additional information and to apply please visit our school websites:
www.beaconhill.cumbria.sch.uk
www.solwayschool.co.uk
or call either of our offices on 016973 31234/20509 for an application pack.

Closing date for applications 5pm on Friday 24th April 2026.  Interviews will be held the following week.

Our schools take safeguarding very seriously.  All posts involving direct contact with children are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974 and the successful applicant will be required to hold or undergo a suitable enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service disclosure.  However, amendments to the ROA 1974 (Exceptions Order 1975 (2013 & 2020)) provide that certain spent convictions and cautions are ‘protected’.  These are not subject to disclosure to employers and cannot be considered.  Guidance and criteria on the filtering of these cautions and convictions can be found on the Ministry of Justice website or via the Unlock website.

Short-listed candidates will be asked to complete a criminal record self-disclosure form to provide details of all unspent convictions and those that would not be filtered or protected, to be returned to the school prior to the date of the interview.  You may be asked for further information about your criminal history during the recruitment process.  If your application is successful, this criminal record self-disclosure information will be checked against information from the Disclosure & Barring Service before your appointment is confirmed.

In addition to the above, the school reserves the right to carry out an online search on short-listed candidates.  This will only include a search for information which is publicly available online. Please note it is an offence to apply for the role if the applicant is barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.
