The Local Governing Body of Dean CE Primary School invite applications from appropriately qualified teachers for this post, teaching a mixed age class (Key Stage 1 at least initially) with the opportunity to take on additional responsibility within the school.  We’d ideally like our new teacher to join us from February half term but appreciate that some applicants may not be able to start until after Easter. We’d prefer to have someone who wants to work full time but would consider 0.8FTE or above. We are looking for:
•    An excellent primary classroom practitioner with a deep understanding of the primary curriculum, assessment and pedagogy.
•    Someone who will work collaboratively with other members of staff, be flexible, well organised and enthusiastic and build positive relationships with pupils and their parents.
•    Someone who is committed to get the best out of every child and to providing imaginative and exciting learning opportunities.

The successful candidate will:
•    have experience of working within the full primary range and ideally be ready to lead English/maths or SEND and at least one foundation subject in our school.
•    be able to plan and deliver lessons that meet children’s individual needs, build on prior learning and capture their interests in all areas of the primary curriculum
•    have ambitious expectations of pupils’ work and behaviour, engendering respect through positive relationships and consistency
•    be a committed team member (and potential leader) who will play an active part in the life of the school, engage positively with families and lead by example
•    know how to keep our children protected, safe and provide an environment where they can thrive
•    support the school’s Christian ethos and values and willing to be part of the wider school community.

We can offer you:
•    A brilliant opportunity to progress your career in a school with a real family feel
•    A committed staff who put our children first and centre
•    An opportunity to work within the supportive collaborative network of the Good Shepherd Trust

We are committed to safeguarding the welfare of all our pupils and staff and expect all applicants to share this commitment.  All shortlisted candidates will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references. Application forms and further details about the post are available from the school website www.dean.cumbria.sch.uk.

Visits to the school are encouraged and welcome by prior arrangement with the Head of School or Executive Headteacher. Please contact the school office by phone 01946 861408 or email [email protected]  to arrange this (this email address is monitored in term time only).

We are seeking to appoint a committed and caring teacher to work with a very small mixed EYFS and Key Stage 1 class. We are looking for someone who:
•    Is suitably qualified to teach pupils in Early Years and Key Stage 1;
•    Demonstrates enthusiasm and a commitment to improving outcomes for all pupils;
•    Sets high expectations and delivers excellent progress through high-quality teaching and learning, notably in phonics.

Our school is easily accessible from Carlisle, Wigton and the surrounding areas, set in a stunning rural location with open views of the Lakeland fells and the idyllic Solway Firth shoreline. We are fortunate to have extensive outdoor space, including our own woodland area.
Bowness-on-Solway Primary School was judged ‘Good’ by Ofsted in 2025 and was recently recognised as being in the top 1% of schools nationally for outcomes in reading, writing and mathematics. The well-being of pupils and staff is at the heart of everything that we do.
