St John Henry Newman Catholic School is situated on the edge of the Great Border City of Carlisle, on an elevated site with open views over the countryside and city. Located within a short drive from the Lake District National Park and easy access to M6 motorway providing links to both South West Scottish Borders and beautiful Cumbria. Our brand-new school offers a modern, airy environment with excellent facilities. Ofsted recently judged the school as “good” in all areas with the Science Department in particular a strength of the school. We are seeking to appoint a creative, forward thinking and dynamic Science Teacher on a permanent, full time basis. Our Science department comprises of specialist teachers in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. We deliver the National Curriculum using Activate resources to KS3, then we move on to AQA Trilogy supported by AQA Triple Award. As we have specialists in all fields we are able to deliver A Level Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Applied Science. As a department we are lucky to be supported by two excellent technicians who support us with our practical work, they are always on hand to try new practicals and enjoy coming up with new ways to carry out practicals.  In our new school building we are all located on the same floor, with six large science labs and an enviably large prep room, all with views across the playing fields and farm fields.

Senior Teaching Assistant

Permanent Senior Teaching Assistant experienced in working with children who have social and emotional mental health difficulties.

PCD7 £27,711-£28,624 per annum pro rata (30 hours per week, 44.6 weeks per year) term time only/ £14.36 - £14.84 per hour.

We are looking to appoint a motivated, experienced and kind Senior Teaching Assistant to join our staff team from January 2025. The role will include supporting a child with social and emotional mental health difficulties, teaching small phonics groups and providing short one-to-one interventions for a range of pupils. There will be a requirement to supervise whole classes in unforeseen circumstances. Experience of supporting children using a nurturing and relational approach is essential. Recent autism training and experience working with autistic pupils would be desirable. RWI and Team Teach training are also desirable.

You will need to:
Adapt learning programmes to suit the needs of allocated pupil/s under the direction of a qualified teacher; 
Work closely with the teacher to share assessment and help plan next steps;
Contribute to meetings, reviews and IEPs where appropriate;
Support pupils’ holistic development and well-being;
Consistently display high expectations of yourself and pupils; 
Shows initiative and creativity in helping to provide a stimulating, purposeful, caring and friendly learning environment and resources which challenge, inspire and meet children's learning needs; 
Engage enthusiastically with on-going training;
Communicate and work effectively with other professionals; 
Be an inspirational role model who is fully involved in the life of the school;
Support the Catholic ethos of the school.

After School Club Assistant

Working hours will be 10 hours per week between 3.30 pm and 5.30 pm, Monday to Friday (term time only).

We are looking for an outstanding practitioner who:
•    Has a passion for working with children.
•    Is able to lead the day to day organisation of the After School Club.
•    Is able to create a safe, welcoming and friendly environment delivering high quality creative play opportunities embracing each child’s individual needs, unique qualities and personalities.
•    Is able to liaise with the school with regard to the needs of the children who attend the After School Club.
•    Is able to provide care, play opportunities and activities in a homely and nurturing environment, with regard to the individual development needs of the children and age ranges of children.
•    Fully supports inclusive practice and ensure that all children can be involved in the activities offered if they wish.
•    Is able to consult and liaise with the children and involve them in the planning of activities.

Qualifications required:  NVQ Level 2

Our Gold award playtimes need playworkers!

Due to the retirement of three members of our dedicated play team, we are recruiting! Working as a member of the Play Team, you will ensure that all our children have meaningful lunchtime play every day. You will work as a member of the Play Team to create a safe and stimulating outdoor environment providing social, active and creative play experiences for all. 

We are looking for fun and friendly people who can;

• Facilitate play opportunities and act as an ambassador for play. 
• Work with the Site Manager, Play Coordinator, and Play Team members to ensure that all our children have a safe site for play. 
• Assess play areas for risks daily and communicating/implementing any changes required. 
• Assist with putting out and packing away of play equipment/kit. 
• Record and report incidents of note that occur during lunchtime – e.g. site issues, behaviour, first aid. 
• Assess and deliver first aid to pupils (if trained). Assist with first aid reporting. 
• Coordinate and communicate with the Play Coordinator, Play Team Members and the Catering Team to ensure that all children visit the dining hall in a scheduled manner, to minimise queuing and maximise play time outside. 
• Offer care, support and advice for children during lunchtime. 
• Contribute ideas and suggestions to improve the team practices and performance. 
• Promote and safeguard the safety and welfare of children in accordance with school child protection and behaviour management policies. 
• Support and uphold Norman Street values, and are committed to our relational approach to behaviour.  
• Attend periodic team meetings and/or training for professional development.
