St John Henry Newman Catholic School is situated on the edge of the Great Border City of Carlisle, on an elevated site with open views over the countryside and city. Located within a short drive from the Lake District National Park and easy access to M6 motorway providing links to both South West Scottish Borders and beautiful Cumbria. Our brand new school offers a modern, airy environment with excellent facilities. Ofsted recently judged the school as “good” in all areas with the Science Department in particular a strength of the school. We are seeking to appoint a creative, forward thinking and dynamic Science Teacher to join our successful Science department.

Our Science department comprises of specialist teachers in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. We deliver the National Curriculum using Activate resources to KS3, then we move on to AQA Trilogy supported by AQA Triple Award. As we have specialists in all fields we are able to deliver A Level Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Applied Science. As a department we are lucky to be supported by two excellent technicians who support us with our practical work, they are always on hand to try new practicals and enjoy coming up with new ways to carry out practicals.  In our new school building we are all located on the same floor, with six large science labs and an enviably large prep room, all with views across the playing fields and farm fields.

St John Henry Newman Catholic School supports career development and progression with excellent resources available. For Early Career Teachers we work with One Cumbria and Teach First to provide the Early Career Framework.

Kitchen Assistant

We wish to appoint a Kitchen Assistant to serve high quality meals to our students in an efficient and effective manner.  We would like the successful applicant to have a full clean driving licence as they will be required to collect meals from a local supplier. However, suitable applicants will be considered without a driving licence, but hours will be reduced in accordance with requirements. The prepared meals will be served from our kitchen after completing the appropriate temperature and food safety compliance checks.  After distribution of meals all surfaces require cleaning and prepared for the following day. It is desirable for the applicant to hold a C & G Level 1 Preliminary Cookery or Catering & Hospitality qualification or similar; or the willingness to undertake training to achieve the necessary qualifications.

You must be able to work independently and be part of the team in a busy school catering for staff and students between the age of 14 and 16 years.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974; pre-employment checks will be carried out; references will be sought and successful candidates will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and other relevant pre-employment checks; including health and identity.

The Governors of Ashfield Junior School are looking to appoint an excellent, enthusiastic teaching assistant to undertake work in one of our KS2 classes.  The role will be to work alongside a team of teachers and other TAs within year 4 to support a pupil with identified social & emotional needs. We are seeking to appoint a Teacher of English to join this very successful 11-18 school, situated on the fringe of the Lake District National Park. Full or part time (0.6 to 1.0) will be considered.

The English department is committed to giving students a rich and varied exposure to both language and literature.  Outcomes in English are strong, as is uptake at A level. We are an evidence-informed team and will be attractive to teachers who are dedicated to continual improvement of their own practice and also keen to work as a team to embed learning over time for all of our students.     Extensive enrichment opportunities such as live theatre are provided both within and beyond the school day.
