Senior Teaching Assistant (Term time only/Temporary)
Hours: 32.5 hours per week
Oughterside Foundation School are looking for a reliable and hard-working teaching assistant to join our committed and enthusiastic team.
We have a number of children with SEND and the role would involve working to help these children to thrive in our mainstream environment.
We need someone who is enthusiastic, highly motivated and resilient, and can make strong positive relationships with all children.
The job is temporary until 16th July 2027 initially due to pupil numbers, with a possibility of extension.
We are a small, village school in West Cumbria and as a staff, we are passionate about making a difference to all of the pupils in our care.
As a small school the role would require you to be flexible to work over a mixture of age groups, sometimes within a whole class situation, and at other times, working 1:1 or in small groups with pupils with SEND.
You will have at least an NVQ Level 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning skills or equivalent qualification and have experience of working with children with a range of Special Educational Needs.
We need someone who:
• Has a good working knowledge of the principles of supporting children with a wide range of SEND.
• Preferably has experience of working with children with SEND, in particular, having a good understanding of ASC, ADHD and Speech and Language difficulties.
• Enjoys working with children and can form positive and supportive relationships with children, adults and parents/guardians.
• Has patience, understanding, a caring nature and a sense of humour.
• Can demonstrate positive and consistent behaviour management.
• Can be flexible and are able to demonstrate the ability to work and contribute to working as part of a small team.
• Is reliable and has a good sickness and punctuality record.
• Is able to be proactive, resourceful and adaptable.

All posts involving direct contact with children are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974 and the successful applicant will be required to hold or undergo a suitable enhance Disclosure and Barring Service disclosure. However, amendments to the ROA 1974 (Exceptions Order 1975(2013 & 2020)) provide that certain spent convictions and cautions are 'protected'. These are not subject to disclosure to employers and cannot be considered.

Short listed candidates will be asked to complete a criminal record self-disclosure form to provide details of all unspent convictions and those that would not be filtered or protected, to be returned to the school prior to the date of the interview.
